Representation in Media
Representation In Media
All media texts are re-presentations of reality. It means that all media texts are intentionally composed, written, framed and cropped. Representations of women across all media around the world tend to always highlight the following or a few:
- beauty
- her physique
- sexuality
- emotional
- relationships
Women are usually represented as being part of the family, friends and colleagues context and working and thinking as part of a team. Compared to women men are more predominant as TV drama characters and up to three times more than women and the men tend to be more of a predominant focus of news stone. Representation of women that do make it onto the page and media do tend to be stereotypical, such as societal expectations.
The representation of masculinity are the following:
The masculinity is a concept that is made of more ridged stereotypical than femininity.
Typical Masculine | Typical Feminine |
Tough, Hard and Sweaty | Fragile, Soft and Fragrant |
For example a stereotypical man would like a
- sports car
- a smart phone
- a diving watch
- a hi-fi system
- an airline
A stereotypical women would mostly enjoy:
- toilet paper
- deoderent
- perfume
- running shoes
- books
- music
